I have to be honest: summer may be the most popular season, but winter at The Nest at Big Trees is my favorite. Playing in the snow with the kids and then warming up by the fire is the highlight of cabin life for me.
Our cabin sits atop a hill that makes for great snow play and sledding. If you make the trek down to the lake, you will find an open meadow just begging for a snow man. And while I am entirely content to stay near the cabin, there is lots of fun to be had when you venture out, too!
Spicer Sno Park- Offering wide-open spaces for the family to go play in the snow, you will find opportunities for sledding, snow mobiling, and cross country skiing. Daily passes are only $5.
Big Trees State Park- Even if you have visited this awe-inspiring park filled with redwood giants before, it becomes a new place in the snow. Bring sleds to play with the kids and be sure to walk the North Grove Trail. Look for special events at the park, like horse-drawn sleigh rides, as well.
Columbia State Park- The historic gold rush town transforms in the snow. Check for special events only offered in the winter.
Murphys - The darling town of Murphys celebrates winter with a number of events. Check their calendar to see what is coming up.
