Spicer Meadow Reservoir is popular for boating, fishing, and hiking. It is part of a hydro electric reservoir system that includes Utica and Union reservoirs. The road that links the reservoir to Hwy 4 is closed in the winter, but opens once the snow thaws.
Lake Alpine is a picturesque lake formed by snow melt, so the water is very cold until well into the summer. It’s regularly planted with trout – making for some great fishing here on 180 surface acres with an average depth of about 40 feet (12 meters). Boating, kayaking, and fishing are all welcome here.
Sour Grass is an area located along The Stanislaus River, just outside of Dorrington. It is a great place to relax by the river and take in all the natural beauty. The water is always very cold, since it is powered by snow melt. Bring a blanket, a picnic and a book and make a day of it.
